Disadvantages of Garage Cabinets on Wheels »

If you are scared off by the price of the idea of installing garage storage systems and are looking for something a little smaller scale and easier to work with, then garage cabinets could be a good solution for you. They offer a good deal of flexibility for placement because they can either be flat on the ground, attached to a wall or on the ground with legs. One additional choice they offer is the ability to have the cabinets on wheels or rollers. This is something that most garage storage experts would not recommend you do for several reasons.

Most houses you will typically see are not built on flat land and they tend to have a little slope and that is usually found in the garage as well. Having rollers instead of legs underneath means those cabinets that are next to each other are not going to be of equal height in some cases which erases the nice clean straight look you might be going for. Legs can usually be adjusted and raised or lowered which can compensate for a garage floor that is not level throughout.

Even with rollers underneath that lock, it does not eliminate all movement from the cabinet. The stability can still be in question as they can be bumped or slightly moved which could disturb the contents inside, leading to things being possibly damaged or broken.

The only time where garage cabinets are recommended for use with wheels underneath is for tool cabinets. The wheels benefit the movement throughout the garage so projects can be worked on in a variety of areas. The cabinet can also be easily moved around the car as well if you like to work on your automobile and do your own repairs and cleaning.

Cleaning the garage and having it organized is a beautiful sight to behold. If you are looking for nice clean lines, you might end up disappointed with the look and level of the cabinets if you have wheels underneath them. While they serve a purpose when used with tools, for most other instances, it is best to go in a different direction when choosing what goes on the bottom of the cabinets.
