Different Grape Growing Climate Considerations »

Grapes are one of the most relished fruit in the market. Indeed, growing your own grapes is such a rewarding endeavor as it brings various practical advantages. For one thing, it helps the person’s blood circulation go smoothly leading to good blood flow to vital organs of the body such as the heart and the brain. This will lead to an improved mental and emotional well-being of the person.

There are various factors that you need to have basic knowledge before starting on growing grapes. You should have sufficient information about the climate because it has tremendous effects on the quality as well as the quantity of grapes that will be produced.

You need the proper grape growing climate if you’re going to have a successful vineyard. However, the proper climate is a variable term, since different types of grapes need different climates in order to thrive.

There are three climactic factors that should be considered essential in order to thrive: micro climate, messo climate, and macro climate.

One of the most successful methods of clarifying the relationships among the different areas, both for grape-growing and wine making has been the “heat summation” method of classifying vineyard regions. (This is also known as micro-climate.) The grape does not grow or mature its fruit when the temperature is below 50° Fahrenheit during the growing season. The ideal microclimate is the climate immediately within or surrounding your grape vine canopy and differences occur within a few meters / centimeters and minutes or seconds. It is influenced by the vigor of the grapevine, irrigation, soil management, how you manage the canopy of your grape vine, the row porientation you use, the row spacing etc.

Messo climate refers to the specific location- the slope in the moderating effect of body of water. The mesoclimate describes the climate within smaller areas such as a region or valley. The climate conditions of a messoclimate is normally calculated over shorter periods of time (using hourly data) and is influenced by the topographic factors of elevation or altitude, slope inclination and aspect, and proximity to bodies of water.

The macro climate refers to the overall climate found in a large region. The macro climate is very important for growing grapes. The growing or gardening zone may be considered the macro climate. The macro climate is determined by many factors, including the average cold temperatures in the winter and hot temperatures in the summer and the number of frost free, warm growing days all year long. In general, grapes need about 150 to 170 days with temperatures over 50 degrees Fahrenheit in order to grow, flower and set fruit.

The ultimate lemon juicer »

Many people use lemon juice in cooking, drinks, or even cocktails. This tangy citrus juice tastes great, and is also quite healthy. It is far better to make your own fresh lemon juice at home than buy concentrates, and in order to best do so you are going to need a lemon juicer of some sort. Although is possible to use a simple hand-held juicer, there is another option: the upright countertop citrus press.

It is fair to say that these citrus presses are not designed exclusively to juice lemons. The main reason people would buy one of these citrus presses would actually be to juice oranges or grape fruits, but this is not to say that it won’t work perfectly well for limes or lemons too. The great thing about these upright juice presses is that they are much easier to use than hand-held lemon juicers, allowing you to process far more fruit and make a lot more juice. They also look fantastic!

The best known upright juice presses are made by Metrokane, and are often found in bars and restaurants. These juice presses stand about 18 inches tall, and are designed to use on a bench or countertop. They basically consists of a strong steel frame, and a vertical pull the lever which allows you to exert enough force to almost instantly crush every last drop of juice out of any citrus fruit.

It is said that with one of these presses, anyone can easily crushed up to 10 oranges or grapefruit a minute. Being a lot smaller, you could probably crush almost twice as many lemons or limes – that’s a lot of juice! These juice presses also look fantastic, finished in stainless steel, they are a real compliment any kitchen.

So how much does one of these presses cost? You can expect to pay about $150 for a good-quality upright juice press, and although this sounds like a lot of money there are some factors you need to consider.

Firstly, you’ll be able to make all your own orange and grapefruit juices at home. This means you will to save significantly on your grocery bills, when you no longer buy these traditional breakfast juices. Secondly, these juice presses are a serious long-term investment, unlikely to ever break down or need fixing.

If you want the best, and love innovative design, why not treat yourself to a new Metrokane juice press? These devices are a pleasure to use, and are sure to impress all your visitors.

Have you ever thought of chocolate as an ingredient for a main course, not only for a dessert?
If you and your guests like chocolate and are open to new culinary combinations, this recipe for turkey with chilly and chocolate sauce will be a success.

Ingredients for 4 people:

Dice the turkey breasts into 3-4 cm / ½ inch cubes, heat the olive oil in a frying pan and fry the turkey until golden, then add half the cognac and let it evaporate. Tame the meat off the heat and let it cool on a dish.
Preheat the oven at 180ºC / 355ºF Take a casserole dish and place a piece of parchment paper. Place the meat on the dish with the bacon, add the garlic and rosemary and cook for 45-60 minutes.
In the meantime, mix together sugar, paprika, and the remaining cognac. When the turkey is cooked, take it out of the oven and raise the temperature to 200ºC / 390ºF. Glaze the top with the cognac sauce, and put it back in the oven until it’s brown and lucid. Take the turkey out of the oven again and cover in aluminium foil for 10 minutes.
In the meantime, sift the cooking liquid into a different pan, pour the wine and the chilli peppers, and simmer for 15 minutes. Discard the chilli peppers, add the dark chocolate and stir.
In a small bowl, melt the butter and mix it with flour and salt. Carefully add it to the chocolate sauce, and mix everything, trying to avoid the formation of lumps.
Carve the turkey, and serve with the sauce.

If so far the recipe didn’t convince you, then you decide to use chocolate in a more traditional way, with a chocolate fountain, or with a classic Italian tiramisu recipe.

Soups in Italian Cuisine »

The Italians often say that soups are the true test for aficionados of great food. To prepare a good soup requires time, care and attention, beginning with shopping for just the right ingredients. The ingredients that go into the soup kettle vary from region to region, but one thing is the same throughout Italy: the stock is made from a piece of meat and never from a stock cube. Every home maker and every butcher knows the best cuts of meat for a hearty stick: breast, back, stomach, shoulder and tongue. Poultry stock is made not only form soup chickens, but also from duck, goose and capon meat. All soups are based on two basic recipes, minestra in brodo, and zuppa.
Minestra in brodo is a broth with vegetables, noodles or rice, and zuppa, is a thick soup that is frequently poured over a slice of bread.
Minestrone soup is the most famous Italian soup, and it can be found in countless variations, both as a thick and as a broth soup. In the northern regions of Italy it is prepared with rice and Parmesan, in Tuscany with beans and fresh olive oil, and in the south with tomatoes and garlic. For the Tuscan version of minestrone, a particular type of beans are employed, called Zolfino (or burrino) beans, which come from the river Arno valley. The tiny, bulbous, pale yellow bans grow on diminutive bushes. They have a thin pod that melts on the tongue ’like a communion wafer’ as they say over there. The pulp has an uniform texture, almost like a puree.
Zuppa has peasants roots. It was made from whatever was in season, as well as leftovers from slaughtering or fishing. Some delicious, filling examples are spelt soup, lentil soup, Tuscan cabbage soup, hearty tripe stew and fish soup, which is often served as a main course.

About Espresso Cappuccino Machines »

Not all espresso machines are created equal and when buying one for the home or office it is important to consider what type of features that you want your espresso machine to have. A basic espresso machine has a small water tank, a chamber for pressurizing and heating the water, a place to put the espresso grounds and a little place to put the espresso cup for the brewed espresso to flow into.

If you like cappuccino drinks you also have to know that espresso and cappuccino are not the same thing. An espresso is a simply made single or double shot of espresso with nothing added to it. A cappuccino is an espresso topped with foamed milk. Espresso cappuccino machines are the machines that make espresso and that also come equipped with the necessary parts to foam and heat the milk.

These machines have a small metal piece that heats up and shoots out steam. When making foamed milk for the cappuccino milk is added to a metal cup and the steamer is turned on. The steam heats up the milk and makes it frothy turning cold milk into warm foam. If the machine is good quality it should take less than a minute to make the foam for the espresso. The milk can then be lightly spooned onto the espresso to make a cappuccino and can be topped with powdered chocolate or cinnamon.

It is hard to replicate cafe made foamed milk for a cappuccino without the proper equipment. There is really no other way to make warm foamed milk for a cappuccino without the steamer attachment. If you are really particular about your cappuccino drinks it is important to be sure you are buying a machine that comes with a built in quality milk steamer and foamer.
